Barry L. Duncan,
Psy.D., a trainer and therapist with over 17,000 hours of clinical
experience, is co Director of the Institute of the Study of Therapeutic
Change (ISTC) and in private practice in Coral Springs, Florida. He has over
one hundred publications, including thirteen books. Barry’s latest books:
The Heroic Client (2nd edition) with Scott Miller and
Jacqueline Sparks (Jossey Bass, 2004), Heroic Clients, Heroic Agencies:
Partners for Change, with Jacqueline Sparks (ISTC Press, 2002),
and the APA best selling, The Heart and Soul of Change, with Scott
Miller and Mark Hubble (APA Press, 1999). Because of his self help books, he
has appeared on "Oprah,” “The View," and several other national TV programs
and has been featured in Psychology Today and USA Today.
Barry conducts seminars
internationally in client directed, outcome informed therapies in hopes of
inciting insurrection against practices that diminish clients and

Jackie
Sparks,
Ph.D., LMFT,is
co-author of Heroic Clients, Heroic Agencies: Partners for Change
(2002) with Barry Duncan,
The Heroic Client (2nd edition) with Scott Miller and
Barry Duncan (Jossey Bass, 2004),
and author of recent articles and book chapters on resistance to mental
health business as usual. She is an assistant professor of marriage and
family therapy at the University of Rhode Island, where her interests are critical theory and the
social construction of mental illness. An AAMFT clinical member, she has
worked as a therapist, trainer, supervisor, and administrator in the field
of family based services and community mental health for sixteen years. Jacqueline Sparks offers consultation and
training for agencies desiring to become effective partners with clients and
communities.

Karen Kinchin, LMFT is a Ph.D. candidate at Nova Southeastern University
where her dissertation topic is the validation study of the CORS (Children’s
Outcome Rating Scale). Karen served as the clinical coordinator of a home
based family therapy program in West Palm Beach Florida, which was the first
home based program to use the ORS/SRS feedback system at all levels of the
therapeutic process; including the supervision and program management level.
Karen's professional interests involve social
constructionism, critical theory, and bringing the
child's voice to the family therapy process. She is currently in private practice
in Plantation, Florida. Karen is the list manager for the heroicagencies
discussion list.

Jim Walt, MA, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist,
is Director of Santa Cruz Center (SCC), a counseling and consulting firm in
Santa Cruz, CA. SCC specializes in clinical work that is client-directed,
and outcome informed. SCC also offers training and supervision for
therapists and agencies, and consulting services for businesses. Jim is an
Associate Professor at John F. Kennedy University in Campbell, CA, was
recently elected as a board member-at-large of The California Association of
Marriage and Family Therapists, and was the 1993-1994 President of the
Association.
